i realise i dont put up photos on my blog anymore. haha.
no reason since all the pictures are uploaded by others on facebook. haha. save me the effort yet my face still appears somewhere. HAHA...the wonderful-ness of facebook, no matter how lame some of the applications are.
anyways, another week flew by. tht's sad, one week since i was 20. and i haven done anything significant. lol.
had a rather interesting 3 1/2 hrs tutorial on breast examination. comprised of 4 stations, and at one station, we got to perform a breast examination on one of the tutors present. it was rather nerve-racking, cos it was a rather intimate examination and there were a few pple in the room watching u. but for guys, it wld more awkward i think. maybe no the locals, but the asian guys. haha... at another station, we had these models of breasts made out of rubber and we had to feel around for the "lumps" = possibly cancer. they were quite hard to feel, and needed some pressure. my fingers were definitely aching after the whole tutorial. lol.
i wanted to book our flight to Sydney during the easter break and was so excited tht the tickets were rather cheap, and was all ready to book the tickets. then i realised all along i had clicked the airport near geelong instead of the one nearer to melbourne. & there are actually no more jetstar flight out of the nearer airport.
sighs, our next choice: Adelaide.

emm... been a while since i posted an entry, but since it's my 20th birthday (mid life crsis?? haha) i shall made an effort. :)
anyways, yesterday was a really INTERESTING day. prob a nice adventure before i turned to the dark side. had my first GP placement for clinicals and i was 1 1/2 hrs late due to taking the wrong train. i had a strong inkling tht i was on the wrong platform but i didnt check till i was far far away in some place called srpingvale. at flinders station, i was told i was on the sandringham line, but aparently i was on the pakenham line instead. the confusing thing was tht platforms 10,12,13 were kind of together, and thus i prob got on the wrong train. i went on for abt 40 min on the train and wondered where the hell was i since i heard "clayton station" and i didnt remember seeing tht stop on the line i was supposed to be on. tht was to monash uni campus instead. so i went to the map and SHIT. i realised i was heading the wrong direction and would take me another 1 1/2 hrs to get to my destination since i had no choice but to go all the way back to the city again. called up the doctor and was told "tht isnt good planning on yr part right?"
i DID PLAN, just tht things didnt GO according to PLAN! sighs.. was so paranoid tht moment, asked so many pple how to get back to south yara, and once at south yara, i asked another dozen pple to make sure tht THIS time i board the right train to hampton. even had kat help me check the platform no. through the internet. thanks lots kat:)
train was delayed as usual and i FINALLY arrived at 330pm, when i was supposed to be there at 2pm. luckily i had a really really nice doctor and he even smiled and laughed tht i had "travelled far" to come here, and if i needed a glass of water. LOL :) the weather was so hot tht afternoon. anyways, we got down to see the next patient. andrew, my clinical partner had already given a flu jab to a patient and did some other cool stuff since 2pm. but he was so kind to explain all to me.:)
but clinicals tht afternoon was the BEST:) i never knew a GP could see so many different cases a day. if tht's his typical day at work, it's so exciting. haha. within at short few hrs i was there, the doctor had seen
- a patient who had stepped on a rusty nail - gave a tetanus vaccine immediately and his foot was so swollen
- a man with 3+ urine, 3+ RBC in the urine, with high BP and edema in ankles - was asked to keep a 24 hr urine collection in a container tht was the largest i ever seen; reminded me of those u put petrol in. HAHA. hopefully it is not glomerularnephritis
- a woman who came in wanting a mammogram and pad smear, and so she just stripped totally in front of three of us to let the doctor examine her breasts. she really felt no embarrassment whatsoever, and even the doctor said it was unusual for a patient to strip everything off like she did.
- a elderly couple, with the husband having a large swollen, pusy cyst at the back of his shoulder. the doctor had to perform a minor operation to cut the whole absess out, and since the nurse was on leave, i got to help swab all the blood from flowing and to cut the tread of the sticthes. his wife was beside him and was so destressed by the no. of injections (prob. 10 - for local anaesthetics) and the amt of blood tht she started crying. it was so sad to see her being affected by her husband's plight, though he couldnt feel much. there was some trouble stiching the wound up cos it was rather wide and the cyst was stuck onto the deeper tissues. at one moment, the doctor had to use force and blood just SPLAT everywhere, onto my clothes as well. sighs... but the messy work was so worth it when finally the wound was closed and i realised i had used up LOTs of gauze to absorb all his blood. it was so satisfying to see the job done. i dont think i was the best assistant though, had a bit of trouble cutting the thread which were quite thick.
- managed to practice taking Blood pressure after so long and made a huge boo boo. i think i really need to revise all my clinical examinations. haha.
- a few more other patients
time passed so quick and though we were supposed to leave at 5, we ended up leaving ard 6 plus. andrew drove me to caulfield where he lived and i took the train home without much trouble. he suggested picking me up frm caulfield each time so i wouldnt get lost again.LOL.
had a really enjoyable time, though i really need more practice interviewing patients too. might consider general practice in future. hehe.
yup, tonight had a nice dinner with yiching, gezzel, rui xi, avril, yilin, sumei at a thai restaurant along smith street. coincidentally henry brought sam n i there a few weeks ago and so it seems like a really popular place. foood was good, company was better. thanks o much for the cheese strawberry muffins:):) i love friends who bake. lol. dont have to get myself dirty and i am sure i am not as good a baker. HAHA...
and the best surprise, sam did a surprise thing at 12 plus with my fav. angle cake from greenings:) tried the green tea one before, and was telling her how i wanted to try the lemon one and she got me one this afternoon!:) i was so blur and didnt even notice it in the fridge. haha. with sparkles, she sang and gave me a really pretty giraffee necklace too:) THANKS SO MUCH SAM:) loves**

i played my first game of lacrosse today.
was fun:) and not as easy as i tot.
luckily Mel was with me. :) thx mel, but does tht mean i have to follow u to dancesports now?? HAHA.
but i think i am gg to have a huge blue black on my nose cos the hard lacrosse ball landed SPLAT onto my face!..sighs.. first injury sustained...
tmr gg to see how touch ruby goes. :) hopefully it will be just as fun! haha. it seems i have too much time to waste... NO i dont, just in case u were wondering. haha. :P
& shit, i am overdosing on ice cream. i cant help but keep opening the freezer.
u know how they say 'keep friends close, but keep yr enemies closer'?? this shows how wrong... in the end u cant resist the temptation but to make friends with the enemy.. HAHA... logical?? :P
uni was so packed today since the other faculties started their first day. sighs.... there is no more peace on campus. lol. but according to jasper and kelvin, more pple means more "scenery" to look at... uKnoW>> hehe...
