ok, i cant really blog on my birthday cos all the pictures arent with me! haha.
but still, i had a great day, starting with aiylnn and kevin waking me up at 8am in the morning! good thing they allowed me to wash up and not just kidnap me. haha.
had a picnic by carlton gardens with kat, sarah-the necklace is so pretty, thanks :), mark, sam, kevin, ailynn and of coz pancakes and cake was in the package. i heard ailynn went all the way to Laurent just to buy their cake, but they were unfortunately closed. THANKS so much ailynn, the mango one frm crown was really nice too! thanks for making the pancakes kat and sarah, thanks kevin, sam and mark for waking up so early. i had fun playing at the playgound like little kids and the message on the cake purposely read: " happy 9th birthday jacq!" oh dear, i am like a real giant if i was nine!:)
and btw, i received a present frm sam, a hanmade keychain. but then, she said she thought buying a real tee-shirt for me was "not worth it" cos too ex, so she decided to sew one tiny one on a keyring. haha. its ok, the effort is appreciated SISTER! LOL. :P
when we reached home after the picnic, my mom was IN MY APARTMENT!!! she like flew frm singapore to be my birthday present and apparently to suprise us. haha. my sis n i had a "feeling" she might come over cos my dad's acting skills were gave away but still, i LOVE my present. haha.
ok, after letting tht sink in, ard noon, i left the hse to meet to phey yee downstairs. we met rachael and walked all the way to jasper's hse at Eureka. it was Jasper's birthday too so we medicine pple deicde to celebrate together:) but of coz both of us didnt know what the rest were up to. so we chilled at jasper's big cosy apartment, apparently waiting for melissa, then the door flew open and in came the rest with TWO HOME-BAKED cakes lighted up and pizzas and homemade food! plus, lots of balloons n A rose for each of us too. :) melissa made jasper's oreo dark chocolate cheesecake which phey yee made my pineapple buttercake! they really are fantasic bakers! looks like medicine isn't their only forte. haha.
practically everyone was there. besides jasper, kim, janice, phey yee, mel, kelvin, pj, qilun, anges, jenna, rachel, andrew (hope i didn miss anyone out). we had lunch, talked and played majong, card, guys hooked on PS and girls busy gossiping. haha. had really much fun! so long since the whole group of us had time to gather outside lectures! :) thanks so much for taking the effort, frm the cakes, to the flowers, balloons, food etc...
yup, then we left and my dinner was really nice with my mom and sis... teppanyaki at chinatown:) it was good friday so pratically everywhere is packed! everyone is out having dinner. wanted to head down to crown for Nobu, but i guess it would be impossible to get a place.
also, thanks everyone who made the effort and wished me:) really really grateful for all of u guys!!! if i didn reply yr sms/blog/phonecall etc, pls be assured i did receive them! thanks.... !!!! all the way frm singapore too! u guys just rox!

geez.. i cant wait for friday since apparently someone will be coming to visit me:)
surprise surprise, i wasnt let into the name of the person lol.hehe. will u be who i think u are? hehe. :):) gosh... haha.. faster come! :)

yest. was IMSS torts and champagne lunch, where we provided food and alcohol to 1st, 2nd and 3rd year med students. however, it didn turn out quite as well as expected since one of our sponsors was rather upset at the whole running of the event. oh wells, it is really hard to plan such big scale event. but we had fun, esp matthew i am sure, putting ice down people's back. and of coz i had fun popping the food into my mouth before serving the countless "reached out hands" hoping to grab a piece! LOL. hehe. it will be our last organised event for our team 2008, before most of us will step out and let new members join the club and take over the running. Our president, andrew, is gg to treat us to korean dinner on monday! how nice:) but still, i am so glad he was our president and still IS of coz:)
anyways, easter break starts on FRIDAY:)!! A WEL DESERVED ONE WEEK BREAK! yays, my bd falls on such a good day. a real GOOD friday lol. haha. apparently i am NOT allowed to have driving lessons on tht day, under "strict" instructions, so i managed to change it to sat morning:) i am so glad to have such nice friends willing to take the time and effort to celebrate with me:) i wonder what's up though ;P
ok, two more days to go till turning 19! i haven feel the gloom yet surprisingly. oh wells...
btw, i am really confused where i sld head for my AMS year in 2009. sld i go back to spore for the research project, stay here or work REALLY hard to push my score to at least CLOSE to 70 so i can probably get a chance to go to the UK or Norway. sighs, why is life so full of decisions?? and why cant i get at least a 70 avg? it is like "JUST 70" to others and it really is so hard.
n phyllis!!! i am go glad to receive yr email. will reply u soon ok??? :):):):)
dora too. will reply u guys asap.
miss u guys lotslots!

ok, random tot.
i still cant believe the countless hrs we had studied for a freaking 15 min 15 question MCQ test tht is worth only 5%!!!! n i came out of it feeling not any more relieved. how nerd i feel now... -.- lack of sleep... -.-

"tools of my trade, please me kind to me?" :P (adapted frm IMSS)

emm. after so many eye-opening anatomy practicals, i think today is particularly interesting.

i like anatomy practicals, at least compared to lectures and tutorials!:) haha.

anyways, unlike last semester, we had an UNTOUCHED body to ourselves this time, without all the meddling to the skin, thoraxic cage being pulled apart, the brain being sawed into half etc...

my group was assigned to this body, and i think she looked around 70 maybe. she has outgowths of lumps all over her chest, we thought it might be soil at first. lol. haha. but it turned out to be abnormal growths tht are found in many elderly pple, but hers were just the more serious case.

yup, probably cos we are doing the thorax this week, we were supposed to go through the many layers to skin, fat, muscle etc. and tear apart the upper part of the body, the thoracic region to expose the whole rib cage. & after a THICK layer of fat, and unkindly ripping through the muscles, we had the ribcage seen, with the layers of skin and muscle opened up and flipped to the sides, like an opened book.

lots of fluid just kept oozing out like nobody's business lol. by the end of the practical, we had like a whole basin full of body fluid. haha.

ok, more gross stuff.

next, we had to open up the rib cage from the top, from the sternum and folding the rib cage down. to do that, we had to use a SHEARS or a LARGE SAW to cut open the rib cage from the lateral sides. i always thought those "weapons" should be left to the gardeners to play with, instead we are using them to force our way through the ribcage so that we can see the lungs and heart that are underneath. we even had to use a HAMMER and a CHISEL to break the sternum at the neck. there were lots of cracking of bones and physical work done! haha. it was gross to a certain extent, esp with the increasing overwhelming smell frm the bodies that was filling the whole lab.

finally, with much effort to rip through the bones without piercing through the diaphragm and the lungs/heart, we folded down the ribcage from the top, NEARLY breaking the lower ribs with too much enthusiasm. haha. we got to view the massive lungs and heart underneath. she had larger organs than usual, prob cos she was overweight too.

we were supposed to take out both lungs by cutting through the hilum. it was not an easy task! since lungs are divided into lobes, and they sit in deep cavities, we really had to push our whole hands underneath into the cavity and rip the whole lungs out.

unfortunately, on the left side, the lung ripped into two, & on the right, it was nearly sheared apart too. haha. but it was indeed a sense of achievement seeing both HUGE lungs (ok, 4-5 mini lungs...hehe) in our hands.

we ended the practical with guess wat, "george clooney saves the day"! haha. we were shown this clip frm a war movie (rather old i think, cos george clooney looks rather much younger and the acting was weird) where one of his comarades got shot and had a tension pneumothorax, basically air in the lungs causing the difficulty in breathing. so he punctured a tube through the victim's chest and drew air out, and the man cld breathe again. haha. so he saved the man's life! yays. lols. :P anyways, i tot it was weird for a movie to show a medical situation so accurately focused, right down to the microscopic details of the lung, the alveoli and the collapsing lung were shown too............ ..... ok... hehe:)

yup, now, there is a fireworks display and carnival tmr at fed sq to mark the end of summer. Moomba waterfest 2008. i didn go last year so i really want to go. but, I HAVE A TEST ON MONDAY!!! lets just see...

still, going all the way to Taipan on sunday for yumcha is another thing i am looking forward to. hopefully, i wont be eating with the guilt of everyone else studying while i am pigging myself with siewmais.

ok, weekends are full AGAIN!

btw, HAPPY 19TH BIRTHDAY PHEY YEE:) hope u liked my card and the surprise we gave u today:) get all the glowly sticky stuff out of yr hair tonight ya:) enjoy!!:)

p.s. too bad phtotgraphy is not allowed in the labs... nvm, hope my "vivid" description is good enough. :)

oh, and i just got the issue of "Gubermaculum", the magazine frm the faculty, and

i tot the jokes at the bottom of the pages are really funny. plus, they are all quoted from our LECTURERS!!:) only some of which i can remember, which shows how much i really listen. lols.:) enjoy!

1) "when u see a fat patient, you might suspect that they have Cushing's (metabolic disorder), but mostly they're just fat."

2) "it is really quite humbling, in fact really humbling, to find out that all you are is a repackaged worm."

3) "someone will come in and say something like: "Doc, you gotta help me, my toddler, he's eating paper all the time, my other children cant do their homework cos it just gets eaten. he is eating through the phonebook.. he's up to L!"

(apparently, this i remember vividly, cos i was thinking, hey, i should have a brother like that! my teachers will never blame me for "eaten" homeworks! & this is true u know, there is a uncontrolled desire to eat anything and everything!)

4) "calcium: it must be seen. it must be seen by something to dowomething. how attention-seeking!"

5) "you should be proud and boast about your flatulence. flatence is good! of coz, it can get out of hand..."

and others...

haha, dont u think my lecturers are so queer, or lame! haha. and they apparently dont even realise it. haha.

also, good luck to those receiving their a level results today:):)

Dora, i wanna make sure u dont repeat lol :)

and some JI guy escaped frm prison the other day. the police even sent out an MMS with his face! wait till i see him in melb!:) watch out! haha.

waiting for my next lecture, so decided to do something "useful". haha.

had my first ICM tutorial for the semester today, and was taught to measure blood pressure. apparently, my tutor says i have a really hard BP to measure. why do i always get into trouble with cadio stuff? the other time during my check-up, i was told there were weird sounds so i had to go to a specialist. luckily, there wasnt anything abnormal. sigh, all these medical knowledge is driving me nuts, esp. if it makes me suspect there is some abnormality. -.-

ok, i have to get done to useful stuff now and start considering about my AMS next year. sld i do the research back in spore? i am really tempted to, but apparently, my parents rather me stay far far away!!! haha, poor me... LOL. hehe. i wonder if the wrong person is reading this...
anyways, there are so many options i am so indecisive!!!!

sighs, have so little time to blog.
but still, here is a short post.:)
have been really busy with classes and catching up with lectures. tht's so sad right> haha.
friday was IMSS city tour. Can u believe i was one of the HOST for the first year medical students? hehe... i think they know the city better than me. lols. good thing, we managed to engage several sponsors for our tour, so we had free food! hehe... egg tarts, torts crepes, custard buns etc..visted vic market, melbourne central, QV, chinatown, of coz yarra river and crown casino :) plus, we had dinner at lucosta at lyogn plus kbox session. too bad i cldn join them for dinner. yup, was really tired after walking the whole afternoon, but it was rather fun:)
and i had my first driving lesson today!!!! was rather confusing at first, but i think i did rather comfortably after a few tries:) hehe. but i am glad i am doing automatic instead of manual, which i wld have surely screwed up. haha. cant wait for next week's lesson. doing a double lesson probably. stay clear off the road, or be my victim!! MUHAHAHA.
P.S. just to declare: i didn't nearly knock anyone down today, maybe a few pigeons only! hehe.
yes, and had a great boat rowing outing today to Studley Park with Jack^3 family gp, ken, mush n her friends. had a picnic and i heard, lots of yummy homecooked food:) (minus the KFC raymond got... lols). sadly, due to my driving lesson, i had to miss the picnic and join them after that. still , sorry to make u guys wait for so long;) thanks to good directions frm jack i got there without much difficulty. haha. or my sense of direction is getting better. emm...:)
we rowed along the river and lucky for me and my sis, we had ken and chi to do the manual labour of rowing the oars. haha. others had single or double boats and another big boat. just for the record, my sis n i helped too! haha. all of us ended up splashing river water at one another, though good thing we had mush's jimmy choo handbag in our hostage boat so we were 'kinda' spared frm the massive water fight btw the others.
sam even capsized frm his single canoe while trying to splash mush and wei ling. we ended up having to tow the canoe all the way back to the dock cos it was so filled with water, with him in our boat. it was a massive rescuing effort on our part. three cheers for bring the man and the capsized canoe back to safety! HAHA.
super funny, come to think of it! lols. but i think sam lost his glasses and his phone was all wet! poor boy.
yup, some had ice cream after the wet adventure under the hot hot sun (though i must say the weather was good to us today, at least no rain). took the bus back ard 5pm, tired tired.
still, went to pancake desert hse for dinner with my sis since tmr is her first day at uni!!!:) all grown up. ok, i have played the whole day and my conscience is bugging me now, seriously!
pictures up soon i hope:) have to get if off the others!:)
and kat!! welcome back to melbourne and thanks to much for the lugging the book all the way frm KL!!!:):)
everyone is coming back! yays, uni is full-fleged frm tmr onwards. the last two weeks, only poor medical nerds like me have been roaming the huge melb uni campus.. sad case right?
my little brain is hurting.....why??? :(
